Mohawk amends name

The largest manufacturer of premium printing, identity and imaging papers in the country has changed its name: Mohawk Paper Mills is now Mohawk Fine Papers, Inc.

The company says the recent acquisition of International Paper’s fine papers business has transformed its offering to a diverse range of fine paper products, with the company’s commitment to quality as the unifying factor.

"The name change is meaningful for several reasons. First, it marks an important milestone in our company history," says Thomas D. O’Connor, Jr., chairman and CEO. "The new name also reflects our broader product portfolio while emphasizing Mohawk’s longstanding commitment to quality."

A new identity system, being designed by Pentagram, is to be launched this fall. Cohoes, NY-based Mohawk Fine Papers, Inc. says it is the largest manufacturer of premium printing, writing and imaging papers in the US. Flagship grades include Strathmore®, Mohawk Superfine ™, Beckett®, BriteHue®, Via®, Mohawk Color Copy® and patented Inxwell® products, Navajo® and Options®. Mohawk engineers its papers to provide optimal performance for sheet-fed, web and digital printing.

• Mohawk has been added to the EPA List of Top 25 US Green Power Purchasers. Mohawk (#13) was one of four additions announced this quarter along with HSBC (#7), Starbucks (#22) and Syracuse University (tied for #23). The US Air Force was #1. Mohawk is the first largescale production facility in the US to use nonpolluting wind energy to manufacture paper.
