Mohawk launches new technology for HP Indigo Cohoes, NY-based, Mohawk Paper Mills, Inc., has introduced Superfine i-Tone™, a new uncoated paper for HP Indigo printers. Proprietary process developed by Mohawk specifically for the Indigo and applied to Superfine. According to Mohawk, testing at RIT’s Printing Applications Laboratory, showed adhesion at 99.5%, flaking tests were minimal at 1 mm or less, and the blanket memory is very strong. After 250 sheets they only required one sheet to clean the blanket memory. Mohawk worked with Nalco to produce the formulation for the i-Tone process. The companies say the result is exceptional image transfer, a “unique affinity for ElectroInk™” plus unrivaled toner adhesion, no shelf-life issues common with pre-treated Indigo papers. Superfine i-Tone works equally well with both dry toner and ElectroInk. Nearly a year ago, Mohawk approached Nalco to help develop an Indigo-printable paper. The companies have had a working relationship for over 20 years. The goal was to produce “an economically viable solution to deliver a paper performance breakthrough without violating existing patents.” The tone-Tone grade combined Mohawk’s papermaking expertise with Nalco’s SMART Solutions™ for Digital Grades. www.mohawkpaper.com.
