A press release from Voith Paper announced that BASF Aktiengesellschaft, Ludwigshafen, and Voith Paper Holding GmbH, Heidenheim, Germany, have signed a long-term co-operative agreement to develop plant technology and process technology and chemicals for paper production and finishing.

The partnership will focus on developing new technologies such as curtain coating as well as the design and launch of new paper machinery and the complementary chemical systems.
Coating trials will be at BASF’s facilities and machine optimization and new technology trials will be done by Voith.

Both companies will continue to market their products and services to the pulp and paper industry separately. This means that the companies’ existing business relationships with respective customers will be unaffected by the partnership.

In April, BASF signed a separate agreement with paper pigment producer Omya AG of Switzerland.
