Garneau is Catalyst CEO

The American Forest & Paper Assn. (AF&PA) released its 47th Annual Survey of Paper, Paperboard, and Pulp Capacity March 9 in New York, NY. Total US paper and paperboard capacity declined 1.6% in 2006 to 97.7 million short tons, the sixth consecutive annual contraction in Vancouver, BC-based Catalyst Paper Corp. appointed Richard Garneau as president and CEO. Garneau’s background in paper and forest products has been built over more than 40 years in operations and finance.

Most recently, he was executive vice-president, operations at Domtar Inc. running the paper, pulp and wood sectors. Before joining Domtar in 2002, Garneau was vice-president, finance and CFO at Norampac, CFO at St. Laurent Paperboard (1997-2000) and president of Finlay Forest Industries (1994- 1997). He began his industry career at Donohue in 1974.
