Bowater gets new CEO

David J. Paterson is Bowater, Inc.’s new president and chief executive officer replacing Arnold M. Nemirow who is retiring. Paterson had been the executive vice-president of Georgia-Pacific Corp.’s building products division since 2003.

He joined G-P in 1987 and has been responsible for its pulp and paperboard division, its paper and bleached board division and its communications division.

Nemirow remains non-executive chairman until later in 2006. He said in January he intended to retire this year. He joined Bowater in 1994 as president and COO, becoming CEO in March 1995 and chairman in 1996. Before joining Bowater, Nemirow was president and CEO of Wausau Paper Mills Co. after 16 years with Great Northern Nekoosa Corp.
