Xerox shows off erasable paper

Xerox Corp., Norwalk, CT, recently showed its new "erasable" paper to the public for the first time at the WIRED NextFest, Chicago.

The experimental paper is designed to be printed on again and again, reducing paper use in the office and cutting waste.

The paper is coated with chemicals that react to light of a specific wave- length. When the paper is exposed to that wavelength, it creates visible text on the page. Within 24 hours, the paper erases itself and can be used again.

First announced in 2006, the paper is a collaboration between the Xerox Research Center of Canada, who developed the chemistry of the technology, and PARC (Palo Alto Research Center Inc.), who developed the imaging technology. www.portucelsoporcel.com PI
