André Bernier heads PAPTAC

Twenty-five-year pulp and paper industry veteran André Bernier, mill manager at Catalyst Paper's Crofton Division, BC, has been elected chairman of the Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada for 2009. He succeeds Marie A. Dumontier, corporate director Ð environment and carbon strategy, Fraser Papers Inc.

Bernier was president and CEO of SFK Pulp from 2002 to 2008 and manager of the SFK Pulp General Partnership from 1999 with Abitibi-Consolidated and Donohue. From 1996 to 1999, he was manager of the Smooth Rock Falls, ON, pulp mill.

He is a member of a number of professional associations including the Quebec Professional Engineers Assn. and PAPTAC.

Bernier holds a BSc in mechanical engineering from Université Laval and an MSc in project management from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, as well as an MSc in pulp and paper from the Université du Québec à Trois-Riviéres. www.paptac.ca.
