Nalco Structured Board offering helps revamp packaging mills

Naperville, IL-based Nalco Company says its new Structured Board offering helps packaging mills balance mechanical, operational and chemical variables while optimizing profitability and improving competitiveness.

Said to be the first of its kind, the Structured Board offering represents Nalco’s commitment to focus on specific grades of paper its customers produce, ensuring that end products meet customers’ specifications.

Nalco’s Structured Board offering is a series of monitoring tools, data management programs and chemistries that allow manufacturers to re-engineer their finished sheet to improve product performance, sheet quality, process yield, or raw material utilization.

Nalco says that, historically, mills had to compensate for the complexity of trade-offs between manufacturing parameters, cost and finished product performance. Examples include running basis weights above target to meet strength specifications, increasing effluent outflow to decrease system trash and improve surface appearance or changing furnish mix to minimize wax contamination. Operating below optimum directly affects the mill’s bottom line. PI
