Voith machines claim two world records

A new production record was achieved on Mondi Business Paper SPC´s Ruzomberok, Slovakia, PM 18, a Voithsupplied machine. Daily gross production as a record 1128 tonnes of copy paper. The machine ran at 1500 m/min for over 10 days without any problems. PM 18 has a Voith MasterJet headbox and a DuoFormer TQm. It is also the only machine in Europe so far with a Voith Single NipcoFlex press section.

Voith says this new world record for paper production with only one press nip again proves the high potential of its shoe press and web-stabilizer technology. Such a high production speed was previously only achievable with a multi-nip press section. This gain in speed is the result of the combination of a press concept with closed draw (Single NipcoFlex) and draw-reducing high-performance stabilizer boxes (ProRelease+) in the dryer section.

SAICA, Zaragoza, Spain reached a new world speed record on PM 9. Voith says the machine is the world’s top performance
paper machine. It started up in October 2000 and achieved production and speed records in September 2004 and in January/February of this year. On September 23, 2005, while producing packaging paper of 75 g/m?, PM 9 ran at an average speed of 1443 m/min for 24 hours and a maximum speed of 1460 m/min for 10 hours. PM 9, with a wire width of 8100 mm, produces corrugating medium in a basis weight range of 75-110 g/m?. Its design speed is 1500 m/min.

SAICA has placed an order with Voith Paper for PM 10 to produce corrugating medium and testliner in a basis weight range of 65-175 g/m? from 100% recycled furnish. The wire width will be 8550 mm; the design speed 1800 m/min. Start-up is scheduled for March 2006. www.voith.com. PI
