Paprican recognized for partnerships The Pulp and Paper Research Institute of Canada (Paprican) won the 2004 Leo Derikx Synergy Award for Innovation. Awarded by Science and Engineering Research Canada (NSERC), this honor celebrates outstanding university-industry partnerships. “This prize recognizes effective partnerships that connect our university-based research leaders with those in the private sector who can deliver research results to the marketplace,” says NSERC President Tom Brzustowski. Paprican is recognized for the excellence of its partnerships with the Canadian Pulp and Paper Network for Innovation in Education and Research (PAPIER), the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, and École Polytechnique and McGill University in Montreal, QC. Paprican has maintained close links with university research, since its founding some 80 years ago. Before the recent creation of PAPIER, the Institute played the lead role in the Mechanical Wood-Pulps Network of Centers of Excellence through which direct partnerships with 16 universities enabled the delivery of a wide array of technologies to the pulp and paper industry. Paprican recently underwent a major re-organization. It now has a staff of over 260 at laboratories in its headquarters in Pointe- Claire, QC, and Vancouver. It also operates a technology transfer centre in Prince George, BC, and offers its services worldwide. www.paprican.ca. PI |
