ABB gives three-year motor warranty ABB Motors, Vaasa, Finland, says it has extended the operational warranty of its Process performance motors by 50%, to three years (36 months from commissioning or 42 months from delivery. The motors are designed for demanding and continuous duty such as is found in the process industries. Their high efficiency gives low losses and a low running temperature which, combined with high quality materials, results in high reliability, says ABB. With correct maintenance, 10 to 20 years of reliable service can be reasonably expected. An important part of regular maintenance is bearing re-lubrication and replacement at the prescribed intervals. ABB says it deliberately kept the warranty period shorter than the first bearing replacement interval to avoid any confusion. By increasing the warranty, ABB hopes to capture information around premature motor failures. The warranty applies worldwide to all cast iron and aluminum motors in the Process performance range which runs from 4 to 10 kW (IEC frame sizes 112 to 400). PI ABB Motors, www.abb.com
