Domtar and NewPage Escanaba order
Metso systems Domtar Inc. has ordered a new high-capacity roll wrapping and handling line from Metso Paper for its mill in Ashdown, AR. The new system will start up by August 2006. The fully automated roll wrapping and handling system includes a modular high-capacity StreamLine kraft roll wrapper with four industrial robots. The new conveyor collects rolls from paper machines 61 and 62 and takes them to the new wrapper. After rolls are wrapped and marked, they are moved to the warehouse and upended to storage conveyors to be picked up by clamp trucks. NewPage Corporation has ordered a similar highcapacity StreamLine kraft roll wrapper with four industrial robots for its Escanaba Operations in Escanaba, MI. NewPage is the new name of the former Papers Group of MeadWestvaco acquired by affiliates of Cerberus Capital Management, LP in May 2005. The conveyor collects rolls from all paper machines and takes them to the new wrap line. After rolls are wrapped and marked, they are moved to the truck and rail cart loading area. Everything is done automatically with 20-second cycle time, and the system is fully electric and hydraulic free. NewPage Escanaba has also ordered Metso’s OptiCoat Jet technology for its E3 line. The coating technology consists of two OptiCoat Jet coating stations to replace existing E3 flooded nip coating stations, a machine control system and OptiAir deaeration units. Start up is scheduled for May 2006 for the OptiCoat Jets and August 2006 for the wrapping line. The orders include all installation supervision, start-up assistance, training and spare parts |
