Irving Paper has ordered a Metso Paper online OptiLoad TwinLine calender as part of the PM 1 rebuild project at the Saint John, NB, mill. It will be the first such online unit in the world, with the installation scheduled for early 2006.

OptiLoad TwinLine is Metso Paper’s latest multi-nip calender development, especially designed for finishing high-end uncoated wood-containing printing papers. It encompasses two separate stacks of alternating high-temperature steel rolls and soft-covered polymer rolls to control paper moisture, blackening, two-sidedness and printability.

Irving’s PM 1 was substantially rebuilt by Metso Paper in 2004, involving a top wire former upgrade, a new OptiReel centerdriven reel and a new WinBelt winder. At the same time as the OptiLoad TwinLine installation in 2006, Metso Paper will rebuild PM 1’s press section to include a SymBelt B shoe press.
